How We Document Permanent Outdoor Lighting Projects
October 04, 2026
Permanent outdoor lighting case studies are useful only when the project data can be verified. G&D SMART documents projects around the complete system rather than publishing a photo with a vague caption.
What every case study should record
- Application: residential roofline, commercial facade, landscape extension or mixed outdoor system.
- Approximate illuminated length: the installed lighting length, separate from non-lit extension gaps.
- System voltage: the approved 12V, 24V, 36V or 48V architecture used for the project.
- Fixture platform: exact product model and revision where available.
- Mounting: track/profile family, finish and installation approach.
- Control box: GC08 or other approved controller/power architecture, including project capacity.
- Wiring: branch layout, extension strategy, signal support and any required power injection.
- Software: controller, firmware and App/control-platform route actually used.
- Environment: installation conditions that materially affect product selection and documentation.
Show the system, not only the finished night view
A useful case study should include both finished lighting photos and technical evidence: daytime mounting, track position, control-box placement, representative cable routing and the system diagram used for approval. This helps installers and lighting brands understand why the configuration worked.
Document the challenge and the engineering decision
Examples include long rooflines, detached garages, multiple branches, non-lit jumps, difficult control-box locations, signal-distance constraints or project-specific compliance requirements. The case study should explain the decision process without claiming performance that was not measured.
Keep certification claims model-specific
Certification documents, location ratings and electrical classifications must stay tied to the exact holder, model and scope shown in the supporting record. A component certificate should not be presented as proof for an entire assembled project unless the complete system is covered.
How future G&D SMART case studies will be published
Each published project will use the same structure: Project Facts → System Configuration → Installation Challenge → Engineering Solution → Photos & Evidence → Lessons for Similar Projects.
